Jogger robbed at gunpoint in Peacevale

An early morning jogger had a nasty experience this morning when he was robbed and threatened with a firearm.
The man, who had left home at around 5.30am, was on Hajee Jamal Street, near Vinden Street, Peacevale, at about 5.40am when he was stopped by two men.
One asked him if he ‘knew where Dumisani was’. When told that he did not know a Dumisani, the men produced a firearm and demanded money.
The jogger replied that he does not carry money while jogging. The men then took his cellphone from his pocket and walked off. Shocked, the man managed to go back home and asked his mother to call the police.
His mother said she called shortly after 6am but had difficulty in explaining to the operator where the incident had happened as the person answering the phone ‘did not appear to be familiar with the geography of the town’.
‘’Sadly we are still waiting for a police van to come out. They did not bother. We called the station and asked to see a senior person but none appeared available. My son did go down later (to the police station)  to report the incident but we feel this is not right. We are not safe while jogging in our own area and we expect the police to at least react.”
The police have been asked to comment and this will be published once it is forthcoming.
