Dundee Junior remembers the fallen on Arbor Day

Arbor Day was celebrated at Dundee Junior School with touching tributes as the school remembered fallen pupils and teachers. Trees were planted in memory of two special people who passed away, teacher, Mr Gropp and student, Sanelisiwe Zakhele.
Mrs Elliot gave a touching tribute in which she said that the trees would be a lasting legacy to two people who were gone too soon. She asked that learners remembered Mr Gropp and Sanelisiwe, every time they passed the trees. Mr Matsane from the Department of Environmental Affairs was also on hand to help educate the learners about trees. He told learners that trees have emotional connections, plus they give us food, beautify the environment, preserve the soil and help purify the air.
Mr Maree, during the tree planting, reminded learners that the school has a history of planting trees and numerous trees around the school were tributes to fallen teachers or learners. “When you walk past the trees, remember the people whose lives we are celebrating.” He also urged the learners to look after the trees and ensure they were watered regularly.
The event was an emotional one with more than one tear shed, however, it was also a beautiful reminder to remember those who are no longer with us.
