Dundee Hindu Temple ready for Thaipoosam Kavady

The Dundee Hindu Temple wishes the community a blessed and peaceful 2018. “We hope and pray that spiritually and culturally we will be more enlightened and that each person’s hopes and dreams are realised in this new year,” said Temple secretary, Geetha Dookhi.
“The year begins with our Thaipoosam Kavady Festival and to all those who are carrying kavady, we wish you everything of the best and may all your prayers be answered.”
Kindly take note of the following dates:
Friday, January 26 : Flag Hoisting 5.30pm
Tuesday, January 30 : Hanuman Jundha 6am
Wednesday, January 31: Main Thaipoosam Kavady 5.30pm
Friday, February 2: Kumbu Abeshegam 6pm, Chariot Parade: 6.30pm
Saturday, February 3: Navagraha Shanti 6am.Thirukalyanam: 6pm
Sunday, February 4: Public Kavady 8am. Flag de-hoisting 1pm Obayams, Paal Kodums and Kavadies cost R50 each.
All devotees carrying kavady on the Wednesday, January 31 – (the main Thaipoosam Kavady) please note that your strict fasting should commence on Sunday, January 22.
Donations, kavady and obayam payments will be collected over the 10 days of the festival at the Dundee Hindu Temple.
As a mark of goodwill, obayams have been included in the programme for all those devotees and well-wishers who commit themselves to this undertaking every year. The payment for your obayam can be made at the temple during the 10 days of prayer.
“We have distributed raffle sheets that are being currently sold. The prizes for this raffle will be announced during the kavady festival.”
