Signs of desperate times

The continual vandalism of road traffic signs is causing outrage and endangering the lives of motorists.
Following the dumping of a yield sign and street name boards at the Dundee Golf Club, another street sign was uprooted and left behind a tree on Biggar Street near The Shed restaurant.
A stop sign was removed from the Tandy/McKenzie Street area and thrown into a garden at Oaklands flats.
Residents believe it is the work of street children who roam about in the area. Frikkie Coetsee of the Endumeni Traffic Department told the Courier that this kind of vandalism spikes during the school holidays and blamed the destruction on ‘bored school children looking for kicks’.
He warned that criminal charges will be brought against anyone caught maliciously damaging street signs and other municipal property.
