A super literacy boost at Uelzen

Dr Sifiso Kunene accompanied George Adalis to Uelzen Primary School when a presentation of the Letterland Learning Pack was made to the Grade 2 class teacher, Mrs Mangaldeen and principal, Jorg Raffenberg.

The love of reading and words received a healthy boost at Uelzen Primary School thanks to a generous donation from George Adalis of Charlies SuperSpar.
Grade 2 teacher, Shridhi Mangaldeen, had been intending to fundraise to buy the Letterland reading scheme for her class.
The scheme has been successfully introduced to the foundation phase grades (Grade R – 3) but the cost of the pack has made it difficult for the school to have it fully introduced.
Mr Adalis, whose children had attended Uelzen, stepped in and offered to purchase the pack which includes CDs to help with phonetics, spelling and to improve vocabulary.
Miss Mangaldeen said the Letterland pack is of ‘tremendous value especially for pupils whose first language is not English’.
“Letterland is an ongoing learning process so by the time the child reaches Grade 4 he or she has a better vocabulary and understanding of the language.
It is really the right tool to equip our children and we are very grateful to Mr Adalis for his contribution.”
