Party-like atmosphere as Glencoe rocks to Ward 3 by-election fever

There is a party-like atmosphere today in Sithembile as voters are wooed by political parties in the Ward 3 by-election.

There are two voting stations:  Amakhufundo School and Empisini School.  The IFP, ANC and EFF all have gazebos up while the NFP retained a lower profile.  The DA is not contesting the Ward.

Observers said the result should be a straight shoot-out between Thabani Mlotshwa of the ANC and Mbazo Nkosi of the ANC.
The seat became vacant when the IFP sacked Councillor Zitha after he was deemed to be ‘colluding with the ANC’.

By lunch-time, 520 voters had cast their votes at Amakhufundo School of the 2874 registered.  No numbers were available from the other voting station.

There was a queue of voters outside, many clad in party clothing.  Police from Dundee and Glencoe were out in force.

Voting stations close at 9 pm and the results are expected at around 1 am.
