Turning a dumping area into a park

Endumeni Mayor, Richard Mbatha, and the Speaker Bongiwe Mbatha-Makhathini and officials are seen planting a tree. Ward 4 Councillor Hope Xaba was also present.

An area in Sibongile that was previously used as a dumping site by residents has been transformed into a ‘green space’.
The new park-like surroundings were officially unveiled on Mabaso Street by Mayor, Richard Mbatha, Speaker Bongiwe Mbatha-Makhathini, other Councillors and officials last week.
Initiated by the Endumeni Municipality’s Disaster Management department, Mayor Mbatha said he hoped that the park ‘will serve as a symbol of respect for the environment and was also as a way of marking Arbor Month’.
The Mayor also planted a tree.
Ward Four residents, in which the park is located, were urged not ‘to dump in the new area but to take ownership of the park’.
